This week i have been working on how colour  is used to make two worlds. 

Coraline's Real Room

Colours - Purple,Grey,Natural light
Feels - Big,Cold,Boring and lonely
Director - Shows us that Coraline's parents are to busy to  spend time with Coraline. 




Coraline's Other Room

Colours - Artificial  light,Purple
Feels - Warm,Cosy,Happy,Safe and welcoming
Director - Shows us that Coraline's parents wants to spend time with her




Other mother's World

Colours - Green,Artificial light  
Feels - Creepy,unsafe and mysterious
Director - Shows us when the other mother was making the creepy doll to spy on Coraline.

Gymnastics term 3

The last few weeks we have been focused on gymnastics in P.E.


The skills that I already had  when i started gymnastics were a forward roll, walking backward on the beam, a back drop on the trampoline,walking forward on the  beam and jumping on the trampoline.
I have improved at doing a flip on the mini tram, walking on the beam and doing a back flip on the trampoline.In the future i would  like to do a swing on a bar swing.

director-show us that thee other mother isn't perfect like as she thought

(5) physical-no skin,metal skeleton,needle fingers,extra legs,looks like a giant metal spider

      feel-evil,grotesque,terrified/horrified

      director-grabs attention,shows other mother is evil and wants to steal her soul.

Themes:

- courage and bravery

- Looks can be deceiving

The theme of looks can be deceiving is shown through the gradual change of the other the other mother from a honey sweet women to a vinegar sour metal spider.At the start of the film the other mother appears short curvy and wearing the same clothes as coralines real mother.This makes the audience feel safe ,happy and relaxed towards the other mother.The director did this to show us that coraline feels at home with the other mother in the other world.However the other mother changes slowly throughout the film until she  finally becomes a skeletal,metal spider who wants to trap coraline in her other world.When we first see the other mother she is in a warm orange light which makes her seem evil,grotesque and horrifying. Selick shows this changes  to help the audience understand that the other mother was not who  she really appeared to be and this shows the theme,'looks can be deceiving'.

Colour palette - the colour used in the scene


Real world office-cold natural light
                           -grey,white,dull,blue
       The colour palette is predominantly grey.

Feels-cold,large,lonely,boring,cluttered,old,cramped.
Director - Shows us Coraline is unhappy there shows us the real father is to busy for Coraline.


Other world office -
colours - yellow vibrant,red orange,orange light,artificial warm light.

Feels - happy,safe,warm,clean,welcoming,perfect
director - Coraline is happy there.
                shows us the other father wants to spend time with Coraline.

 Colour is effective in helping to create the two worlds and show the theme 'looks can be deceiving'.The real world study uses a colour palette predominantly of greys, white and blues. This creates a cold,lonely and boring atmosphere.The director did this to show that Coraline is unhappy in the real world and that her real father is to busy to spend time with her. The use of a cold natural light reinforces this mood. Juxtoposed to this is the use of colour in the other world study. Vibrant reds,oranges and yellows make the room feel warm , safe and cosy. Henry Selic used this palette to show that Coraline is happier in the other world where the other father has time for her.This shows that looks can be deceiving because Coraline mistakes the bright perfect world for a safe place when really it is a trap.

Atmosphere/mood-the way you feel in a situation

Real kitchen- Outside-rainy windy misty cold
                    - Natural light ,shows that coraline doesn't like it and she's unhappy,wants to leave 

Cold light-White/blue light
                -makes it feel cold/clinical

warm light-orange/yellow light
                 -makes it feel warm/safe



The other kitchen- warm orange light,artificial light
                            -cosy,warm,happy,welcoming,safe
                            -feels like home-abetter home,has a family that cares about her,coraline is happy here

Themes-looks can be deceiving/be careful what you wish for
             -bravery
             -the other world  is the perfect web/trap to aitch coraline
