Bivariate Data and Vitruvian man - Maths

Does our class have the perfect body form?

Who is a Vitruvian man? The Vitruvian man is a drawing made by the Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci

What is a Vitruvian man? Leonardo da Vinci's drawing of a male figure perfectly inscribed in a circle and square, known as the "Vitruvian Man," illustrates what he believed to be a divine connection between the human form and the universe. Beloved for its beauty and symbolic power, it is one of the most famous images in the world.

Q - Question

Do we have the perfect body proportion?

P - Participants / Sample

I’m going to be measuring 12 boys heights and arm span from my maths class

V - Variables and Values

My two variables are arm span and height

R - Relationship

S - Step by step

  • Get all the participants

  • Participants take off their shoes

  • A participant stands up straight on the whiteboard

  • Using a tape measure, measure their height from toe to top of the head

  • Once again we use a tape measure, participant stands up against the whiteboard with their arms stretched out and measure their arm span

C - Control factors

Controlling and avoiding mistakes, taking off shoes, etc

C - Conditions

Using measuring tapes

R - Repeat

Repeating the measurements

I collected my data and plotted the information onto google spreadsheets.

Analysis

Trend - The trend on this graph is a strong Linear graph. You can see that it is all bunched up together which makes it a positive linear graph.

Direction - This graph is strongly Increasing. It is going upwards along the best fit line.

Strength - The strength on this graph is moderately strong. It is all bunched together.

Unusuals/outliers -  There are 3 outliers in this graph. The 3 outliers are the ones way off the best fit line.

Conclusion

Does our class have the perfect body proportions? Yes, I think the data I have collected shows that  95% of the class has got the perfect body proportions. We can see this in the trend, direction, and strength of the graph. The data that has been captured is a strong linear increasing scatter graph.

Maths - Area of basic shapes

Area is calculated by multiplying the length of a shape by its width. In this case, we could work out the area of this rectangle even if it wasn't on squared paper, just by working out 5cm x 5cm = 25cm² (the shape is not drawn to scale).

Pythagoras therom - Maths

Pythagoras theorem - a theorem attributed to Pythagoras that the square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal in area to the sum of the squares on the other two sides.

Pythagoras, who is he? Where did he live and what did he do?Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher and mathematician. He lived in Metapontum village and Cortona. He made important developments in mathematics, astronomy, and the theory of music.

Triangle facts - Maths

Triangle facts - There are always going to be 3 sides.

                       - All angles add up to 180 degrees

-A triangle can always be split into 2 right angles no matter how it is constructed

Different types of triangles - Equilateral triangle = all sides are equal

                                            - Obtuse = greater than 90 degrees

-Acute = Less than 90 degrees

                                            - Scalene = None of the sides are the same

-Right angle triangle = one angle is 90 degrees

-Isosceles = 2 sides are always equal

MATHS - Volume

What is volume - In mathvolume is the amount of space in a certain 3D object. For instance, a fish tank has 3 feet in length, 1 foot in width and two feet in height. To find the volume, you multiply length times width times height, which is 3x1x2, which equals six. So the volume of the fish tank is 6 cubic feet.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              formula for volume - Whereas the basic formula for the area of a rectangular shape is length × width, the basic formula for volume is length × width × height.

English - Freedom Writers

 Unpacking themes and ideas.

Theme/Idea - the ideas the story centers around. - message we are trying to convey to the audience.

Tolerance - the quality of allowing other people to have their own attitudes, beliefs, or to behave in a particular way, even if we don't agree or approve.

Overcoming Adversity - Pushing past/getting through something difficult or dangerous.

The students don't respect or have a relationship with their teacher. They don't understand each other. They drew a racist picture of Jamal. The students yell at the teachers, face different directions, tell her they don't give her respect.

Andre - "why should I give my respect to you? Because you're a teacher? I don't know you. How do I know you're not a liar standing up there"

They aren't in a headspace to learn because they don't feel safe-bring guns to school, mock each other, no tolerance for each other. Marcus - " Lady, I'm lucky if I make it to 18, we in a war! We graduating every day we live because we ain't afraid to die protecting our own"
